Natural conservation

Aerial remote sensing technologies have several advantages to study nature conservation areas and complex natural systems. The effects of climate change are rapidly altering the environment of several endangered species (either plants or animal species). Aerial assessments help the work of experts to fight against these external effects. Aerial remote sensing technologies give the possibility to identify invasive plant species, endangered and protected species (both terrestrial and water plants), analyse their habitats and their spread, to monitor their health condition, to identify pollution and stress factors, either on NATURA 2000 sites, protected areas or areas where one species each should be investigated. Data is supplied about the relief of the area (digital topographical model), the precise location of vegetation (digital surface models), (even identifying individuals in case of trees) and soil conditions.

Potential applications:

  • Wildlife and environmental protection *agencies and authorities
  • National parks
