Generali Insurance Group has recognized the potentials of satellite remote sensing to map agricultural fields and to identify damages caused by extreme weather events (e.g. frost, hail). In strong collaboration with our company a decision support system for damage inspection has been developed and started with total coverage of the Hungarian arable land. The system objectively helps the work of insurance experts to identify the exact location and the size of the damaged area. The system, which is based on the process of time-series satellite data and change detection between two dates, focuses on the four main crops of Hungary – cereals, rapeseed, sunflower and corn, but it can be expanded to other crops in the future.
