Aerial digital imagery

Orthophotos look just like regular ones at first glance, but it lacks the geometrical distortion that regular photos are subject to. They are vectored photographs, which allows us to make precise calibrations and measurements based on them.

Just like most maps, orthophotos, frequently called as orthophoto maps, are also orthogonal projections of the surface. Orthophoto can be made not just only of the surface but of any structures (e.g.: buildings, roads, power-lines, vegetation) as well.

If the digital camera is built on the same platform (in this case the aircraft) as a laser scanner, then the airborne laser scanning and a digital orthophoto production can be taken simultaneously during one flight.
